In 2014, Kelsey Kimmelman and Anna Schmidt spent some time at Easter lunch to convince me to do Spoke Folk. When they left, I was not interested but I found myself filling out the application the next day. Since 2014, I have toured every year making this summer’s tour my 6th.
I grew up in Riga, Michigan and I actually lived in the same house my whole life until I married my high school sweetheart, Brad, in January of 2016. When I got married, I moved slightly south into Ohio. My husband and I just bought our first house and moved back to Michigan in April 2019. We have two cats, Ellie and Molly, and we hope to get a dog in the near future.
I graduated from college in 2015 with a double major in math and integrated science for teacher education. I am in my third year of teaching but my first year teaching at my current school. In August I was blessed with a change of job. I left my first teaching position and accepted a science teaching position at the middle school I attended. I really didn’t understand God’s plan during my first two years teaching but I now know that I was meant for the job I have now.
When I’m not doing my teacher thing, I like spending time with my husband. We like to go on walks, ride bikes, eat, watch sports (particularly hockey and basketball), and fight each other in Super Smash Bros. My husband and I are part of a trivia team and play every Friday. When I’m by myself, I enjoy napping, playing video games, baking, and playing keyboard. I also like to sew. I have sewn my own cycling jerseys and other clothing items.
I love what Spoke Folk is and what Spoke Folk is all about. I love being able to help people grow in faith and share the message with others. I see myself grow every year on tour. Not only has Spoke Folk taught me the habits but it has taught me to trust more and to love more. I wish I had gone on tour as a participant sometime. I am excited for tour because, just like always, you never really know what’s going to happen.
