Leader Spotlight: Trisha DePasquale

I was born in Bay City, Michigan and grew up there with my parents and older sister, Jamie. My childhood was filled with happy memories of traveling with my family, playing sports, and spending time with friends. I was sixteen when my friend, Stacy, introduced me to Spoke Folk. She had toured before and the Michigan ’01 tour was being hosted by her church. I didn’t want to see their program (who wants to ride their bike that far?!) and was skeptical. I still remember how I felt seeing the tour in the sanctuary during their first song. I was captivated, turned to Stacy, and said:

“We are doing this next summer!”

My first tour was the Ohio ’02 and I have been on fourteen tours. It was on the Virginia ’05 tour where I became friends with the man who’d eventually become my husband. While I can honestly say that Bobby and I were just friends on tour, others disagree and say that I gave him “a look” that is on the VA’05 memories DVD. The footage is out there in the Spoke Folk world, so you can be the judge! We started long distance dating four months later (hello looong phone calls!) and got engaged a year later.

I graduated from Concordia University Chicago in May of 2007 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Bobby and I got married in July. Our wedding was like a big Spoke Folk reunion, with over 35 Spoke Folkers that came from all over the country!

We live in Florida and I currently teach kindergarten at a Lutheran school. Several of the winter Spoke Folk tours have slept in my classroom!

My family is spread out, with my mom living back home in Michigan. Jamie (my sister), her husband, and their three children live in Shanghai, China. Our dad passed away in April. I love the times when we are all together, and cherish the memories we have of Dad when he was still with us.

If you know me, you know I love traveling. It started when I was a kid and has continued ever since. I keep a list in my phone of every state, country, and airport I have been in. The current total is 32 states, 35 countries, and 59 airports. I got my love for traveling from my dad, and I am determined to carry on his passion. You can follow my classroom Instagram page (@mrsdepasquale) to see the travel videos I make for my students.

I coach basketball, volleyball, and track for the students at my school. Bobby and I help out with the youth at our church. So many of them have become like family to us. We also lead international trips with Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Builds. This November we’ll be heading back to Chiapas, Mexico. Let me know if you’d love to come along!

Lastly, I believe there is always something to be thankful for. My favorite Bible verse is one that reminds me of every person that has been and is a part of my life: “I thank my God every time I remember you. Philippians 1:3”
